Black Eyed Peas Accused Of Stealing Songs By Two Artists

The Black Eyed Peas have been sued from planiffs that allege that the Hip-Hop/pop group copied “I Got a Feeling," and "Boom Boom Pow,” two of their most popular hits.Both suits were filed on Thursday November 28 in federal courts in Santa Ana and Los Angeles.A Texas-based songwriter named Bryan Pringle filed the Santa Ana suit and charges his song, "Take a Dive," was taken deliberately and re-christened “I Gotta Feeling.”The Los Angeles lawsuit is a refilling of a previous claim from Chicago rapper Phoenix Phenom (nee Ebony Latrice Batts), and her producer Manfred Mohr.

They allege that the Black Eyed Peas infringed on their song “Boom Dynamite” and made it into “Boom Boom Pow.”

Like the lawsuit filed in January of 2010, Batts claims that The Black Eyed Peas stole portions of her song "Boom Dynamite" and reused them in their worldwide hit single, "Boom Boom Pow."

Both Pringle and Batts are now represented by Dean A. Dickie of Miller Canfield, Ira Gould of Gould Law Group and George Hampton IV of HamptonHolley LLP.

"Both Complaints allege that the Defendants UMG Recordings, Interscope Records and members of the Black Eyed Peas engaged in a pattern and practice of intentional copyright infringement with respect to the unlawful copying of songs of unknown or lesser-known artists. It is public knowledge that there have been multiple copyright infringement cases or claims brought against the Black Eyed Peas within the last year, and they are referred to in the Complaint," said Dickie. "A simple listening to the songs will expose them as having been copied and being 'substantially similar'-- the legal standard in copyright infringement cases."

UMG Recordings and Interscope Records are included in the Los Angeles complaint.

Both lawsuit request damages, past and future profits, credits and royalty payments.

Mariah Carey Confirms Pregnancy

After months of “is she or isn’t she,” Mariah Carey and Nick Cannon have announced that they are expecting their first child together. “Yes, we are pregnant. This is true,” confirmed Mimi this morning on the “Today” show, an advance look at a three-part “Access Hollywood” interview.

“It’s been a long journey, but it’s been tough because I’ve been trying to have…. to hold onto a shred of privacy. And that was not easy,” she continued.
The couple stayed mum on the exact date they’re expecting, but Mariah revealed that it will be some time in the spring. “It’s still early, I’m expecting in the spring, I’ll say that. I don’t want to give too much of like, specific outlines,” she said.
“The greatest gift on Earth is a child,” chimed Cannon, who sat in on the interview and referred to the pregnancy as “absolutely emotional” news. “I mean obviously the greatest gift on Earth is a child,” he continued. “But … you know how much we have been through, you know.”
This is the second time that Mimi and Nick have conceived a child, having previously kept a pregnancy and miscarriage secret from the world. “It was really sad so we had to just, we had really to absorb this and take it in,” Carey said of her misfortune two years ago. Cannon added, “And that’s what I said, like her strength would literally be during the day so festive and smiling obviously for cameras and spending time with everyone and you know, literally that night crying herself to sleep.”

On the musical front, Mariah will give birth to another baby, her second Christmas album Merry Christmas II You, next week.

Rihanna (Bauer Griffin) In an interview with Marie Claire UK, Rihanna opens up about her time with Chris Brown, saying he was a "wake-up call."



"God has a crazy way of working, and sometimes when stuff happens you feel like, 'What did I do to deserve this?' Why was it backfiring on me?'" says Rihanna, who graces the magazine's December cover. "But I needed that wake-up call in my life. I needed a turning point, and that's what God was giving to me."



After a violent incident on the night of the 2009 Grammy Awards, Chris Brown eventually pled guilty to assault. He was sentenced to more than 1,400 hours of community service, and will serve five years probation.



Rihanna recalls knowing that their relationship was over. "I remember I was in New York at the Trump Hotel and I woke up and I just knew I was over it. It was a different day. I felt different. I didn't feel lonely. I felt like I wanted to get up and be in the world. That was a great, great feeling.



Other people notice a difference in her as well. "I feel like I smile for real this time. The smiles come from inside, and it exudes in everything I do," she says. "People feel my energy is different. When I smile they can tell that it's pure bliss and not just a cover up."

Michael Jackson (Bauer Griffin) Michael Jackson passed away in June 2009, but that didn't stop him from earning $275 million since his death, putting him at the top of Forbes' list of the Top Earning Dead Celebrities.



Michael’s earnings were more than the other 12 people on the list combined, including Elvis Presley and John Lennon, thanks to the “shrewd negotiations” of his estate.



Forbes said: “Jackson’s posthumous earnings have been bolstered by shrewd negotiations by his estate, including a merchandising deal and the rights to his name and likeness for the Sony film This Is It, which grossed over a quarter of a billion dollars.”



Elvis came second in the list with earnings of $60 million, while Lord of the Rings writer J. R. R Tolkien was third with $50 million.



Discussing Elvis, who died in 1977, Forbes said: “His portfolio of more than 200 licensing and merchandise deals got a nice boost from the late star’s 75th birthday celebrations. Commemorative events included Graceland exhibits, touring tribute concerts and an Elvis-themed cruise to the Bahamas.”



Other deceased stars in the list of 13 include The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo author Stieg Larsson and scientist Albert Einstein.

Fans are bound to find the list controversial. Right off the top I noticed one glaring omission. Here's how the list was decided according to BET.com

BET’s "Top 10 Rappers of the 21st Century" is a fierce, no-holds-barred, hour-long special that reveals the ultimate Top 10 List of the last decade’s hottest rappers, whose careers blew up from 1999 to today.

BET’s "Top 10 Rappers" is the definitive hip-hop countdown by the ground-breaking network that gave love to hip-hop before anyone else dared. Just days after the dramatic, and some would say heroic actions of rapper T.I., who saved a suicidal man's life. The two got the chance to reunite on the Ryan Cameron Show. T.I.'s recent sentencing to 11 months in prison for violating his probation was also a topic. Tip just released a song featuring Chris Brown titled "Get Back Up." In the song T.I. talks about people who have been quick to turn their backs on him.

"I think that I have been in a position to see just how quick people... the public will just throw you away," Tip tells Ryan. "They would rather see you suffer than to see you shine. And you can tell by the same people who praise you while you shining... The same ones who hold your hand up in the ring when you're winning, they gonna be the same ones slapping at me, pointing when you lose. And although my actions have been unacceptable, inexcusable. I don't see them as being unforgivable. And I think that I have been approached by the public... I'm not talking about the courts or anybody in legal. I'm talking by the public. Kanye West takes the wraps off the cover for his fifth album My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy, in stores November 22. “Banned in the USA!!! They tried to play me fam! While retailers may oppose the cover, Kanye is putting his artistic integrity first. “In all honesty … I really don’t be thinking about Wal-Mart when I make my music or album covers #Kanyeshrug!” he said. “I wanna sell albums but not at the expense of my true creativity.”
Kanye is putting the finishing touches on the long-awaited project. “Last day to wrap the album… I’m feeling so blessed on this day… finishing my 5th studio album in 6 years! Lining up piano sample replays,” he wrote. “Adding the voice samples from the VMA performance to the album version of ‘Runaway’ also the whole song is 8 minutes long.”

The numbers don't lie when it comes to B.o.B and his candidacy to be one of MTV News' 2010 Hottest MCs in the Game.The upstart Atlanta rapper's debut album, B.o.B Presents: The Adventures of Bobby Ray, entered the charts at #1 and he also scored three top 10 hits with his singles "Nothin' on You" featuring Bruno Mars, "Airplanes" featuring Paramore's Hayley Williams and "Magic" featuring Rivers Cuomo.In addition to his chart success, the melodic lyricist also heated up the streets with the T.I.- and Playboy Tre-assisted "Bet I" and the verse he lent to Cali Swag District's "Teach Me How to Dougie" remix.

According to Bobby Ray, it's his range that makes him one of the hottest this year.

"I think the thing that I deliver to be a stellar MC or a hot MC, I guess it would be diversity, maybe some type of boldness," B.o.B told MTV News. "It's really hard to assess myself, but if I had to say, I would say that. [I'm] just trying to seek out something new. ... [I] try to find something that hasn't been done yet and then do that and then combine that with what hasn't been done. Just really mix it up."

It's hard to argue with his recipe.

B.o.B recently performed during the 2010 MTV Video Music Awards and as a part of President Barack Obama's Generation 44 event, and he took the stage at the 2010 BET Hip-Hop Awards, airing Tuesday night (October 12).

Eminem Lands Five American Music Award Nominations

(AllHipHop News) The nominees for the 38th annual American Music Awards (AMAs) were announced this morning (October 12th) at the JW Marriott in Los Angeles.Rapper Eminem tied rock group Lady Antebellum for the most nominations with five nominations each.The accolades come from the rapper's hit double platinum album, Recovery.Justin Bieber checked in with the second most nods with three, while Atlanta rapper B.o.B. continued a successful year with three nominations.Katy Perry, Ke$ha and Usher also snagged three AMA nominations, while Usher, P!nk and Bon Jovi will be featured performers during the live awards ceremony, which will take place on Sunday, November 21st.

Orly Adelson, executive producer of the show and Larry Klein, AMA producer jointly stated,

"We are happy to congratulate all of the nominees for their accomplishments in 2010. We look forward to an exciting night of music and celebration on November 21st," said executive producer/producer Orly Adelson and Larry Klein said in a joint statement.

For the fourth year, winners of the American Music Awards will be determined by online voting at www.amavote.com. Artists from all genres of music are honored during the AMA's which were founded by music industry legend d**k Clark, in 1972.

Other artists nominated include Travie McCoy, The Black Eyed Peas, Alicia Keys, Rihanna, Drake and others.

Cash Money CEO Baby Accused By Team Owner Of Lying About Becoming Part Owner Of Miami Dolphins: ''I Have NEVER Spoken To Him''

HipHopWired reports: Bryan “Birdman” Williams is being called out by a Florida reporter who says he lied about seeking ownership of the Miami Dolphins. Armando Salguero of the Miami Herald wrote an article on Birdman after hearing an interview with Shade 45's Angela Yee where he stated that he was seeking minority ownership of the NFL team.

The rapper told Yee, “It's in [the] works...You have to get clearance from the NFL and we're waiting for clearance. Once we get clearance, we good." After contacting the NFL to verify the rapper's upcoming ownership deal, Salguero reports that a spokesman confirmed that he has no knowledge of any approval process for Birdman.

Furthermore the reporter contacted Dolphins owner Stephen Ross who denied having any involvement with the emcee. "I have NEVER spoken to him or any representative," Ross said in a statement released by the team. "Not considering or looking for any celebrity limited partners."

Salguero ended his piece on Birdman saying, “Thanks for the wild goose chase.”

Like many hip-hop stars, Eminem uses all types of four-letter words and adult topics in his music, and Shady has famously come under fire for what critics have dubbed "hate-filled," anti-gay lyrics. But the rapper has revealed that when he comes home, he leaves his potty mouth at work.In a preview released Friday (October 8) from his upcoming interview on CBS' "60 Minutes," which is set to air Sunday, Em describes his household as a swearing-free zone."I'm a parent; I have daughters. I mean, how would I really sound as a person like walking around my house [saying] 'Bitch, pick this up!' Profanity around my house, no," Em told news anchor Anderson Cooper.The "Not Afraid" rapper said he maintains a distinct division between how he expresses himself through his work and how he communicates with his loved ones.

"I'm not saying there's not glimpses of me in the music, there's not truth in things that I say," Em explained. "But this is music, this is my art and this is what I do."

Em has built a game-changing hip-hop career on his brash lyricism and his rowdy Slim Shady persona, but the Detroit MC has mentioned that he calmed down in the booth for his latest chart-topping release, Recovery.

"Shady still exists, but I don't think the subjects on this record call for, you know, bringing the chainsaws and axes out and murder[ing] everyone," he told the New York Times in June. "There was so much stuff like that off the last record that I felt like I was starting to run it into the ground. I think consciously I went in a different direction with this record."
